Today I'm joined by the wonderful duo that is Beau Nelson and Shannon Heth, authors of Cinderella, You Bitch: Rescue Your Relationships from the Fairy-Tale Fantasy. In this episode, we speak about our society’s obsession with having a fairytale love story and happy endings. As kids, we’ve all heard the story of how Cinderella or other fairytale princesses found their prince charming, got married, and lived happily ever after, giving us unrealistic expectations of how relationships should be when we become adults. Listening to this episode will help you see the reality of a being in a relationship and how you can create the ending you desire.
One night during his divorce, Matthew Fray started a blog. He needed to figure out how his ex-wife went from the 18 year old college freshman who adored him to the angry woman who thought he was a jerk and left him. As he pieced together the story of his marriage and its end, Matthew began to realize a hard truth: even though he was a decent guy, he was a bad husband.
Today’s guest slid into my DM’s with a story of transformation so inspiring that I had to have her on to share her experience. Right before the pandemic, Diana Davis Dyer left her nine year relationship with her fiancé. With plans to be married in May 2020, she felt they were both individually functioning in darkness and that a "forever" like that was terrifying. Having never sat down to decide what kind of future and family she wanted, Diana felt so unsure of who she was and where she was going that a commitment so concrete scared her and prompted a life-changing decision to leave her relationship.
