Today I’m excited to welcome Dr. Shefali to the podcast. I have been a longtime fan of her work, and as I step into parenthood myself, this episode comes at the perfect time! In it, we dive into concepts from her most recent book, The Parenting Map, and explore the traditional parenting paradigm (and why it’s not working anymore), plus how to develop awareness around your behaviours to foster a deeper connection with your kids.
Join me for an insightful conversation with Greg Lukianoff: attorney, New York Times best-selling author, and President and CEO of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE). Greg co-authored one of my all-time favourite books, The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure, with Jonathan Haidt. This New York Times best-seller expands on their September 2015 Atlantic cover story of the same name and is an absolute MUST read. In this episode, we discuss some main themes from the book, including free speech, why it matters, the dangers of censorship, and more.
Meet Whitney Goodman, LMFT — a radically honest psychotherapist behind the hugely popular Instagram account @sitwithwhit, author, and the owner of The Collaborative Counseling Center, a virtual therapy practice in Florida. Whitney's debut book, Toxic Positivity: Keeping it Real in a World Obsessed with Being Happy, shows readers how to shift the goal from being happy to being authentic in order to live fully. In this episode, we discuss toxic positivity and how a “good vibes only” mentality, while good intentioned, can actually backfire when we’re denying and dismissing the hardships of life.
In this episode we jam on the addictive nature of social media, the problems Hollywood and reality TV perpetuate, plus Zachary’s emotional journey through a lifetime of crippling anxiety and depression and how a breakdown led him to ultimately find joy, gratitude, self-love and acceptance.
Meet Aaron Albert: my buddy, co-founder and the CEO of Mine'd — a digital platform we co-created to connect you with top emotional wellness experts and community through daily live and on-demand classes. Tune in as we explore the landscape of social media as it pertains to mental health for both consumers and creators, plus our idea to create a different way of orienting towards mental, relational and emotional health challenges.
