This week I am pleased to introduce you to Laura McKowen. Laura had a long, successful career in public relations and the Mad Men–esque drinking culture of advertising. After getting sober, she quickly became recognized as a fresh voice in recovery, beloved for her soulful and irreverent writing online and in print. She now leads sold out retreats and courses, teaching people to how to say yes to a bigger life. Laura is the author of the bestselling memoir, We Are The Luckiest: The Surprising Magic of a Sober Life. This discussion dives into the clarity and potential that can be unearthed when living a sober life. We talk about our intentions behind drinking, and the many messages that we've received around alcohol over the years.
This week I wanted to share thoughts on something that I feel very passionate about right now - worth. So often we shape-shift and adapt from our true selves in order to feel safe, loved, or even just to prevent rocking the boat. Our worth should live in who we are, not in other people's opinions or validations. Are you ready to give birth to your authentic self?
My dear friend Mikaela Reuben joins me this week and I am so excited to introduce you to this celebrity chef and all-around superstar human. Mikaela takes us through a journey that many of us can relate to — building a life with *no* boundaries. For Mikaela, this meant giving up everything for her career including her own health. For Mikaela, being a chef meant constantly nourishing and caring for other people with nutritious meals, while sacrificing her own needs — skipping her own meals and feeding everyone except herself. Mikaela talks us through the terrifying process of beginning to set boundaries, the fear that washes over us when we try to say ‘no’ to someone else’s request for the first time. For Mikaela, resetting her boundaries meant starting to nourish herself first. Mikaela explains that the opportunity to nourish yourself is both a gift and a responsibility. I invite you to learn the gift of nourishing yourself by joining us this week. Learn more about Mikaela’s work and her weekly scoops at https://www.instagram.com/mikaelareuben/
Money is one of the top reasons for conflict in relationships and that is why the amazing Selina Gray is back this week. Selina is here to help us unpack our money story. That is, the beliefs we hold about money that shape the way we feel about ourselves. So many of us have unhealthy patterns with money, it could be overspending, or not feeling worthy of spending, or relying on money for a sense of self. While most of us understand that money can be a stressor and reason for conflict, few of us will have the chance to understand our money wounds and work to heal them. I hope this episode helps you begin on this journey.
We have all been treated badly to some extent—by our parents, our partners, our exes, our old friends, by the narcissists of the world. But once we’ve identified where we’ve been victimized, our job is to step beyond being a victim of the world and reclaim our power. Our work is to look within and enquire into what it is within us that allows painful dynamics to continue in our lives. What is it that stops us from setting boundaries, from saying ‘no’ to things that make us feel unloved, from claiming our right to be fully worthy? This week we explore all aspects of waking up to our worth and importantly how healed people heal people.
