When I first awakened to the reality that I was lied to about love, I was PISSED.
I couldn’t believe that my religion (Catholicism) had lied to me…and joining along in the collusion were movies, culture, my education (or lack thereof), and the adults around me growing up. No one told me love doesn’t often “last” and that being married and staying married are not actually the only goals of a relationship.
I was not taught that love is hard… or that marriage was essentially created to get more in-laws… to gain access to more shared resources, land, territories, and other things.
Or, that most importantly, nothing is wrong with you just because your relationship didn’t work… and your value as a human is not dependent on your relationship status.
